Communication Causing a World That Works
Communication
is the foundation of life itself. By enabling us to express
and bring forth commitment, our communication causes things
to happen in the world.
Since communication
plays such an important part in our day-to-day lives, it continues
to be a major focus of all the Life-spring courses. But what
exactly is communication, and how is it working for you? How
do you carry the experience of sharing at a deep level of connectedness
from the training room out into everyday life?
Honest, clear,
direct communication is an essential key to our own experience
of who we are, to solid, real, and vitally alive relationships,
and to creating a world that works.
Effective Communication
A primary
element of effective communication is clarity about what you
want to say. Only when you take the time to get clear about
your purpose can you express what is true for you--your "bottom
line." To deliver clear communication, just STOP, LOOK,
and say what you mean. Simple? How many times have you been
sorry for something you just said because you didn't really
mean it? Are you using your honesty as a sledgehammer to hurt
someone or to be right?
In order to communicate
consciously, it is imperative to first be honest with yourself,
to get in touch with your experience, and to take responsibility
by expressing it as your experience. When you trust and respect
yourself enough to be yourself honestly, others can respond
with trust and respect.
Once you are clear
about the message you want to deliver, the commitment to what
it is you have to say--your belief in it--is what will project
energy, enthusiasm, and aliveness.
Results
Intention . .
. Action
Intention is another
major component of communicating to achieve the results you
want to create. Causing things to be in the world begins with
an idea, and someone's willingness to communicate about it in
such a way that people acknowledge that it exists.
To check your
intention, you need only to look at your results, because your
communication will always deliver your intended results. Put
another way, whatever result you get back from your communication
has everything to do with your intention regarding that communication.
Think back to a time when you asked for a raise, for example,
and how much the answer had to do with your clarity of intention!
